Major: Biology (This Major's Salary over time)
Please please please if you are a Bio major or any type of science major/interested in the sciences, PLEASE reconsider! Academics are a breeze, the labs are a joke. Literally, although most labs are scheduled for 3+ hours, you find yourself leaving after an hour at most. The equipment/supplies we deal with are faulty and since not enough funding is going to the science departments, you can have 4+ people doing the work of 1-2 people to save supplies. The lab professors, other than maybe 3 I've enocuntered, DON'T know what they are doing and are grading you based on how much they like you/how much you write/ how smart they think you are. It's also VERY hard to get into science courses as a freshman so you'll probably have to triple/possibly quadruple up on labs youre last two years if you want to graduate on time. Speaking of which, I've found many students NOT graduating on time because they could not complete all the required courses. The advanced/semi advanced courses are not always offered and/or offered at the same time with another class you might need to graduate. Academics are not rigorous, although the professors are fairly intelligent, well spoken, knowledge, and have a knack for teaching. They're trying to cut down science classes and the students in each class although a great portion of the student body has expressed an interest in the Biology major. Again, speaking of which you will not be able to declare if you have not already done so freshman year since everyone's trying to do Biology and there is not enough room!! The loophole in this is that even if you are not a Science major, you can still register for science courses which a lot of students are doing. This makes the people who are science majors get locked out of their required courses and TRUST ME, Ramapo WILL NOT open another class even if a lot of students have expressed an interest in it. Trust me.If you are PT/PA/PreDentistry/Clinical Lab Science, I wouldn't say it's too bad to come here as you'll mantain a relatively high GPA, decent academics, and cheap tuition. Also Ramapo does offer courses to allow you to complete your major and you do have priority registration. However, if you're interested/least bit curious about the sciences, do NOT come to Ramapo. Student body is very apathetic. Half the people I've met do NOT know why they are science majors or what they want to do with their life and can barely pass these elementary science courses. Some of the professors can be hard to approach and Ramapo is more concerned about them making there money by locking you out of required courses/not offering the courses you need than allowing you to receive a decent education/rigorous but meaningful academics.ss
