I really dislike IIT. I have no problem with the curriculum. I don't necessarily find the work challenging. Some professors are boring and some are engaging and exciting but you'll get that at every university. I have a problem with the people. Besides being 40% international, which let me tell you feels more like about 95% Asians, the leftover students are assholes. I am almost done with my first semester and I just really hate it here. I am a person that genuinely goes out of my way to be nice to people and when I came here two months ago I made a couple of really great friends, but now that I'm trying to branch out a little more people are just rude. What I'm trying to get at is that unless you make a giant group of friends the first week, you are pretty much stuck with whoever you sit with at the Commons because people are so cliquey. I also really detest the social scene. I guess I'm probably more of a UIC/DePaul partier than and IIT partier because the parties on campus aren't that fun and the same 50 people show up to every one. Within those 50 people 45 of them are soccer/volleyball players/swimmers/runners so they're all friends and they're dicks to anyone who isn't on a team. I am managing to have a little bit of fun because I go out of my way to see what's going on but I still regret coming here. And don't count on the quad because the frats aren't fun and they only hang out with each other anyway. There aren't too many attractive people here either, that may sound vain but dear god I just want to see some attractive guys, I'm being deprived at IIT. And the girls pretty much think they're hot shit if they're even a little bit pretty. I call it the IIT effect, if someone was not popular in high school and/or unattractive, they seem to flock to IIT and get an ego boost because the people are all so unfortunate. All around IIT isn't horrible. If you are truly coming here for only academics then it is probably the place for you. It is also the place for you if you're international. But I unfortunately came here for academics and I wanted to have fun too. Big mistake. Let's just say there are reasons why IIT is on the list of most depressing schools.
