Major: Psychology (This Major's Salary over time)
I graduated with a degree in Forensic Psychology in May 2012. I am writing this six months after graduating (November 2012).

In the six months since graduation, I have not yet had a single interview with any employer for a job in any field. Sadly, I am far from unique. Out of my fellow students whose employment situation I know, 40% are unemployed, 20% are under-employed (e.g., receptionist at a non-profit), 20% work in a quasi-related field and the remainder have jobs in the field. Out of those that have a job that is related to Forensic Psychology, a fair number do not earn enough to support themselves and pay their student loans. To make matters worse, Marymount University (MU) is aware of this and does not offer any program or make an effort of any kind to address this dire employment situation. Once your last check has cleared, you will never hear from them again…

I am concerned my decision to attend MU was a mistake. To confirm whether my experience is typical and worth including as a data point when you determine whether or not to attend MU, contact a MU official and ask them:

  • What percentage of MU Forensic Psychology graduates have jobs related to Forensic Psychology that require an advanced degree in FS within six months of graduation?
  • What percentage of MU FS graduates have a job in any field that requires an advance degree within six months of graduating?
  • What percentage of MU FS graduates have a job at all within six months of graduating?
  • And, most damning, what list serves or events/dinners/job fairs does MU host for recent graduates in an attempt to match them with prospective employers?
