Major: English (This Major's Salary over time)
I am half way through my Sophmore year and planning to transfer. In no way do I hate Skidmore; I am just not happy here. At the end of freshman year I felt very lost. I felt like I hadn't made any headway since I graduated high school (especially when it came to my major). Then I received a terrible concussion at the beginning of fall semester sophomore year in a class; I am still dealing with it two months later. I went to student academic services and they said there was nothing they could do. That was either a lie or they didn't care enough to check. There were multiple accommodations I ended up getting that saved me from failing this semester completely. I got these accommodations through the counseling center. They told me about them and contacted student academic services for me which was wonderful because I was exhausted and could barely remember anything for more than ten seconds. Now that I am better I have decided to transfer out of Skidmore. There is a definite "bubble" here that is impossible to thrive in once you are aware of it. I also don't really care about partying, drinking or random hookups. I want to get my degree and start making a difference in the world as soon as I can. Skidmore is great if you want the "college experience" everyone talks about. If you want to grow up and be a real person as quickly as you can, I suggest looking at schools with your focus less on campus life and more on academics. I plan to go to a school with almost no social life, but everything I need to graduate with the degree I need in a timely manner.
