Naropa is a fine place to be if you are older and know exactly what you want from this university. I came here after a dexual assault at my last university expecting to fall into the arms of a compassionate faculty and staff. Things were beautiful here until faculty decided to interfere in my personal life. From that moment on, my blinders were removed. While the instructors here have been wonderful for the most part, they don't seem to understand that their rules don't always translate to the "outside world". Trying to get ahold of the dean or professors outside of class is like pullin teeth. Scheduling is most often done through email, and staff will ignore urgent messages for weeks. The student housing is supposed to be a sober living community, but that's a complete joke. Rules are enforced only when the student fails to "play the system". There are a lot more politics going on at this university than teaching. I have learned some wonderful tips and tricks here, but my stellar academic record has been sullied by staff incompetence.

I am looking forward to getting out of here. The lack of organization and communication coupled with the bad environment is excused by their religious and spiritual beliefs, which gives a horrible impression on Buddhism.

If you are looking for a place to learn and get a degree that will impress those not from this sort of a community, don't waste your time and money.

While the instructors may have the students best interest in mind, clear communication is constantly lacking. I have never before been unable to get a clear idea of what the assignment is.

If you're trying to stay sober and you don't want to deal with kids smoking an drinking in the dorms on a fairly constant basis, stay away from campus housing.

Naropa is great for some, but not for the serious student. This institution is a money sucking machine that tries to trap students in their system. If you don't kiss ass, you're not going to be treated with respect. A poor excuse for a Buddhist institution.

questionI notice there have been no reviews of the MA Religious Studies program. Why not? I'm so disappointed to see such poor reviews. Thanks for sharing and I hope things are turning around for you vocationally and academically.
