I'm going to leave this comment neutral because I do not plan on trying to persuade anyone to not attend this university. I personally do not like it and I have felt this way after the first two weeks of the semester passed. This is my first year at MU as a freshman and I cannot get away from the fact that this reminds me of high school… except high school was more fun. (A lot more fun.) I enjoyed the new experiences the first two weeks then it quickly faded as everyone's true personalities came out. Most everyone you will meet here is unfriendly as if they do not have time for you.

I have been wanting to transfer for a couple months now and I plan on doing so for the spring semester. I could not fathom staying here for an additional semester. As far as social life goes - there isn't any. If you don't 'know someone' or play a sport, you'll be sitting in your dorm room much more often than you'd like to. Parties get busted in 30 minutes (not exaggerating) and they are a driving distance off campus.

As for school work, the work load is a lot (I'm a science major) and the science department has a lot of unhelpful/difficult professors. I have two that do not speak english well at all and it is ruining my GPA right off the bat. The science classes are challenging and are not a bad choice if someone is interested in science. The only set back is the professors… they have PhD's, but by listening to them teach you'd wonder where they got them from.

There are some PROS to Monmouth University: the beautiful campus, the nearby mall & restaurants, and the small & functional campus. The only thing that your tuition will go towards is golf carts for the faculty and up-keeping the campus. It is a beautiful campus and it's close to the beach which is nice. Getting to class takes about 6-10 minutes depending on the building and the library is a useful resource. Back to CONS - dining hall is terrible and has terrible hours! Also, the library is quite a walk even though it is on the residential side. Everyone goes home on the weekend so if you're from far away you might as well join a club or find something productive to do on the weekends.

Overall, I am not pleased with my experience thus far at Monmouth University and I might transfer to a larger school with a larger number of opportunities. Definitely come for a tour or better yet stay over with someone so you get to experience a little before you make your decision. It's not for everyone, but it could be for you if you find you're comfortable here.
