Honestly, the people that say that you have to be Greek or unoriginal to fit in are just people who don't try and who let stereotypes get in the way. If you're saying that people are closeminded because you're different, maybe YOU'RE the closeminded one for thinking they're all the same. I'm not a typical sorority girl, not blonde and anorexic and rich, but I am in a sorority (a good one too, not bottom tier) as well as several organizations on campus. Even before rush I made several friends in my dorm; after rush, though I am close with several girls in my sorority, my best friends are in other sororities or not in sororities at all. It's the amount of effort that YOU put in. The people here are sweet and among the most giving I've ever met, in all houses or in no houses. No one flaunts money around that I've met, and many of the people I've met do not intend to become billionaires or anything snooty; though our business program is top notch, most students I know came here because of the social work, nursing, or education programs, which aren't really thought of as big bankin' jobs.

As for academics, I'd say I'm fairly bright—I'm in the honors college, and you can truly make the university education what you want it to be because departments are so helpful and really work with you so that you can basically do whatever you want; I'm a triple major. Everyone in each department knows me by name, and I had a professor go out of her way to invite me to take her limited-enrollment senior-level class as a sophomore because she thought I would be great in it and that I would get a lot out of it. I feel comfortable in all class discussion and if I don't understand something, I get a professor's help without going through a TA.

Grade divide is nonexistent—I hang out with freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors, and though the party scene is big, you can definitely still find low-key, non-shwasted people on weekends. TCU is a fantastic environment that sponsors community, fun, and learning from others, and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

You truly have to make it what you want it; everyone hating on Greek life just didn't get a bid from the house they wanted or is an awkward "I hate society" hipster who was closeminded to begin with. You can't expect people to give you a chance if you wrote them off as snooty to begin with.

What if you are black, will you get a bid? My niece has gone to private school and most of her friends are non-minorities, I have heard that the sororities above do not want any black is that correct?
Honestly I can't count anymore how many times I've heard a Greek say f*$!ing GDI (god damn independent), or been told I'm too old to join a fraternity, despite that being because I served in the military… you're welcome btw. I assume you believe too that the non greek or "GDI" people are mostly absent and under represented at greek events because of their closed mindedness right… despite the fact greek events are whiter than a fucking Dave Matthews concert, and people of poverty fail to be represented too. Yeah those GDI's sure are close minded with all their diversity and non exclusive parties. It's so obvious now that it truly is the white blond from a "top tier" soroity who has a lesson to teach all us close minded GDI's about being open minded. The term "top tier" just proves my point. This is a prime example of the kind of morons that dominate this school. Thanks for proving my point that an unearned air of elitism exists in this school.
