If you want to go to nursing, it's a good program. However, if you have a job or kids, don't go. Look elsewhere.

Owens Nursing Staff say do not work as a student. Why do I think they say this? It's not due to the course load but rather to make their scheduling easier. It's hard to work with students at the beginning of the semester after the classes are set to work in additional classes like an EKG class, an RN to BSN completion seminar, HPS labs, mandatory review sessions, or lab scenarios if they have to work around both classes and the students' work.

If you can't drop everything within a week of finding out something, you'll have difficulty fitting stuff in that is required for the class. It's nice they try to offer opportunities, but there's a fine line between demanding too much.

If you have children, try another school. It'll be near impossible to work with everything.

The staff at Owens varies. I've had great clinical instructors but some of my lecture instructors were horrible. They were the ones who had tenure so I think it's the same everywhere. The ones without tenure were great (usually clinical instructors).

Administration is unhelpful.

Honestly? Anything that may fill your schedule like children or work? Look elsewhere. I'm not expecting people should be able to not attend class, but they should be able to have a reasonable amount of time to know when they need to request off or schedule childcare. Owens Nursing does not do this.
