I am a freshman at The University of Tampa. Saying I am disappointed with this school does not even come close to how I feel. I am going to give an HONEST review of this school to help prevent people from making the same mistake I did.

I was lured into the school hoping it would be good for international business. The business school throws out their AASCB accreditation like it means everything. So many schools have that accreditation, but you'll never hear them mention it. I heard numerous people working for UT say,

We have the same accreditation as Harvard, so you are all receiving the same quality education.
What?!?!?!?!?!

If the business school was half as good as the admissions office, the business school might have a chance of being nationally ranked. What do I mean by this? The admissions at The University of Tampa does a phenomenal job of deceiving students into thinking it is a good school. Oh, and admissions, thanks for the birthday card… but I'm not in kindergarden anymore. By the way, John Sykes did not graduate from UT. You can find this out from research, or you can use common sense (he ended up being successful).

When I would mention that I attend The University of Tampa to people around Tampa Bay and throughout Florida, they would either say, "What's that," or just laugh and give a snotty, but justified remark. Employers around the Tampa Bay are and the rest of Florida give priority to almost every school over UT because of their atrocious reputation.

Most professors are part time, and most professors do not stay for a long period of time. What do the professors do when they are not teaching at UT? A LOT OF THE PROFESSORS ALSO TEACH AT COMMUNITY COLLEGES…. So you can literally receive the same education for a fraction of the cost. No one in the staff parking lot ever has UT stickers on their car, most likely because they are ashamed of it. The school simply cannot afford to hire good staff because they invest all the money in the campus and marketing to bring in students. Students really do not pay that much to go there (almost everyone receives scholarships, even kids with less than 3.0's), and alumni does not donate money because they do not end up being successful (check the school's endowment and compare it to other schools). Obviously, the school does not a public school, therefore, it is missing out on millions of funding dollars (even though I met a student that thought it was a public school). The school saves money through hiring the cheapest professors. After all, it is not the education the students are concerned with.

The students here are very attractive and friendly, but they all have one fatal flaw: they are UT students. I have the pleasure of staying in the Hojo (the hotel). This is a euphoric resort where you will be woken up by maids that leave pubic hairs on your unmade bed. The students run around and write stuff all of the walls throughout the halls and staircases. Throughout the entire Hojo, there is guaranteed to be at least one new hole somewhere from a student kicking it, punching it, being pushed into it, throwing something at it, etc. The vast majority of students come from the Northeast or the Midwest (Chicago) to go on vacation while getting a piece of paper that says they went to college. Why do so little students come from Florida? BECAUSE THE UNIVERSITY OF TAMPA IS ONLY A WAY FOR STUDENTS TO GO TO A TROPICAL ENVIRONMENT. Florida residents can receive a much better education for way less money, and that is why they never go here, where as many UT students do not have this privilege (they're really not as rich as what most people say). If Tampa residents aspiring to go to college want to live in Tampa, they will leave for a better school, then come back and get priority for their job search. How much revenue do athletics bring in? We have athletics at UT? The students just drink and get high every night and go to clubs. Greek life here is almost as bad as the athletics. There is no diversity here. The most underrepresented ethnic group is the Asians; I think there are two Asians at the entire school.

As someone who aspires to be an employer, I can tell everyone reading this that I will never hire a UT grad… Not even if they were one of my close friends there (unless I was hiring them for a position that did not require a degree).

I will not be surprised if UT has someone in admissions write a couple positive reviews after this to try to clear their reputation. How can I make this assumption? Because anyone smart enough to use the internet must be smart enough to realize the University of Tampa is a sad, pathetic excuse for higher education. I do not feel bad about writing this review because, for as long as this awful school exists, there are going to be thousands of ignorant kids that want to go here even if they had someone read this to them. This is only to help the students who actually want to go somewhere in life.

The school is nice looking, in a town I love, with some really nice, attractive people, nice dorms (aside from Hojo), and the food is great. So if the truth (everything I just stated) deters you, do not visit, because you will very likely be lured into the trap just as I was.

This is the most honest review you will read about this school… Trust me, it would be a lot easier for me to stay with all my new friends at UT than it would be to transfer to a new, better school next year. But don't just trust me, over 30% of the freshman will be transferring at the end of the year with me (FACT). I know four kids who did not even come back after the first semester.

You have been warned! You can ignore this review just like I ignored reviews last year, but you will regret it if you have the mental endurance to make it through this review.

questionWould you say this applies to most majors? I was looking to be an athletic training major at UT.
questionHey do you think you could tell me more in depth about hojo? i put down my deposit late and would probably end up living there if i decide to go to UT. After reading your comment i'm really skeptical and kind of want some more information on what made your experience so terrible. thank you for your honesty.
