I have a love hate relationship with this school. I don't think it's the school itself; it's the people that go to this school as well as myself. I'm writing this review to help someone who is deciding to go to this school to make the right decision and hopefully they will make that from my review if they are like me.

First, I'm not religious, I believe in God and that Jesus saved us but that is about it, and to me that is all that is important. This school is 98% filled with religious minded people who are either Lutheran or Christian. The other 2% are.. Well?. lets not talk about them?.

I came to this school because I wanted to be in a nurtured community filled with loving people. You figure all Christians are like that?. Boy was I wrong! I didn't get that at my public high school and I?m not really getting that here?

First I?ll start with the pros:

  • the weather
  • the spacious dorms
  • accommodations
  • friendly professors
  • beautiful landscape
  • not a lot of homework
  • easy work
  • the track
  • french hill
  • Cons:

  • no parking
  • can?t have a car if you?re a freshman
  • dorms are bug infested bad!!!
  • noisy if you live in rho
  • no parties on campus
  • stores are far away
  • nothing to do on the weekends if you don't have a car
  • people are unfriendly and only hang out with their roommates or suitemates or teammates
  • there are barely any clubs or activities to do
  • people are exclusive with who they invite to their parties
  • immature high school minded people
  • cliqueness in cafeteria (yes you either sit with your ?group? or forced to sit by yourself)
  • no pool
  • people have drinking problems
  • core classes suck and are not transferable!
  • textbooks are useless and expensive
  • maclab computers are outdated and don?t run very well with the new CS6 photoshop
  • high tuition, poor education
  • class sizes are bigger than what they tell you (I had to leave because there weren?t anymore seats in a class of 50)
  • bullying and name calling as well as sexual abuse (don?t even get me started on this)
  • ugly guys, who are man whores and have sex with anything, yet don?t see themselves as players.
  • slutty unattractive ?athletic girls?
  • athletics are too hard to join, as the people on the teams aren?t very friendly
  • everyone is on drugs of some sort or come from fucked up lives and environments
  • chapel isn?t required but the Christian religion is heavily found in the classes and curriculum
  • people say they are Christian yet go out and drink do drugs have sex and are cold and cruel
  • lack of creativity and freedom of expression
  • library is outdated
  • roomate and suitmates aren?t matched properly
  • cafeteria food will occasionally make you sick =(
  • too many commuters and no parking
  • a lot of transfers are 21-25 yrs. old
  • Overall, Concordia isn?t a terrible university like many other small private religious universities are. It just doesn?t feel like college. If you are religious and have grown up in that environment then you will be fine! This school just isn?t the right fit for me. Unfortunately I can?t transfer because the schools I want to go to wont accept the core classes as credit. So I?m stuck here for a while, friendless and seen as a freak because of the way of life I live. Guess that?s how Jesus felt?. Hopefully my time here will get better and I will find better friends.

One thing i learned here is to be open minded and stay positive thats why im making this review neutral

responseIt's not only the awful people who go here that sickens me, but also the school itself. It's true that you can go to the greatest school in the U.S. (which Concordia is nowhere near the top, on the contrary it's the rock bottom), and still just happen to get a bad crowd who goes there. But even in that situation, at least the school itself will feel like a true college experience, not like high school. Something else about Concordia is that for the amount of tuition they want, you would think that they would make the campus look okay, but the campus is run down and looks worse than elementary schools. If I knew how crummy this school really was in academics and in everything else like social life, I would have been better off just going some kind of club. Even picking in the fields is better than coming to Concordia.
questionWhat is Concordia lacking with social life? And what would you rather it have?
responseConcordia is lacking in everything good, but I'll tell you why the social life is awful there. All the events remind me of what we would do in junior high school. I would rather have a social life that's like a real university's like USC's or UCLA's, not like the junior high or high school atmosphere you find at Concordia. Concordia looks like a shithole where if you can dump all the dumbest high school students in one hellhole, you'll have Concordia.
responseWhat I do not understand why everyone tries to defend this school? I am glad that someone has the guts to speak out against this school.
responseYou want to know why everyone tries to defend this school? They're just saying that either so they don't make enemies or only because they attend there. But they know the truth is that even public school teachers in the ghetto are more knowledgeable than those who teach at Concordia. They should just close this shitty Concordia down. You deserve better than this place. Go to an adult school in your community, even that's better.
responseThe small community makes for an increase in exclusive clique behavior. The concern for these students is that they will not do well when the hit the real world outside of Concordia.
responseOne reason for why students rarely do well when they get into the real world is because Concordia's degree is shitty. Everyone knows that Concordia is a shitty school. Why did I come here? Because I wanted to help my parents and in order to do it, I had to go to a school close to home and Concordia was just about the closest. Now I regret it. I wish I would have gone to a decent school that is within a reasonable distance from home.
responseIf you would go a real school, believe me, you wouldn't be seen as a "freak." It's not you, it's Concordia. Go somewhere like UCLA and USC and you will be considered the norm because those schools accept good students while Concordia takes those who wouldn't qualify for a real school. Even a junior college is better than Concordia.
responseThis review said that Concordia taught her to be open-minded and positive. I have to say that this is because she must have learned that lesson on her own, not because of Concordia's experience. Concordia doesn't teach anything that you can't learn in high school or below. If you do learn anything at Concordia, it's because you studied on your own, not because the teachers do their job and really are capable of teaching. I had teachers in the ghetto who are more knowledgeable than Concordia's.
