I too made a big mistake by coming to Biola. The students who come here are nowhere near flawless. They are just below average or average. Proof? Biola accepts 80% of applicants while a real university like Stanford and USC only accept 25%. Biola and its peeps aren't impressive. I hope you transfer out of Biola. It's not worth your time. |
I am in a similar situation as the above 2 students. I cannot stand Biola for a lot of reasons. But I did not have the same experience as 1 of you mentioned where you had the impression that the students never dealt with stuff like substance abuse. I know at least a couple students who smoke weed and who started drinking in junior high. If anyone's looking for a college that has students who come from wealthy backgrounds, they won't find it here cuz Biola students aren't rich at all. I don't know where these rich stories come from. |
I'm with the two previous reviewers. I don't know why anyone would think that Biola people are perfect. I met many much more perfect students and much more rich students who have recently attended USC and UC Santa Barbara, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. The city where Biola is located isn't known for wealth, there are many richer cities than here. About those who had drug addiction, so what? I've been high before and whoever hasn't, they don't know what they're missing. I saw some kids at Biola drunk off their asses before. |
The students who come here are nowhere near perfect. There are alot of richer students who live and go elsewhere. La Mirada was never an old money town. |
I agree with the above student's comment. Perfect students at Biola? Not even close to perfect and whoever says they are perfect are really disillusioned. |

I went to Biola University for the wrong reasons, I admit. I was a dreamer my senior year of high school, and just wanted to get out of town. I flew south to California, loving the culture and how much there was to do, but unfortunately was not accepted into my dream school. I went with Biola instead. If you love Jesus more than anything and are willing to have him come into every aspect of your life, Biola is the school for you. Unfortunately, for those of us who love Jesus but also enjoy other people's views, and are more toward the liberal side of the spectrum, Biola is a rough fit. I've struggled with substance abuse, depression, etc, and I feel alone among a mob of cookie-cutter, Orange-County-perfect christian men and women who haven't had to deal with a serious problem in their entire lives. I thought Biola would be like other Christian universities, where there is a crowd of super-believers, as I call them, and some who are open-minded believers. While both crowd exist at Biola, the super-believers outrageously outnumber the rest of us.So if you're like me and desperately trying to get out of your hometown and into the adventurous world of Southern California, I recommend going to a different university unless, of course, you are that cookie-cutter, flawless, incredibly nice Christian who wants God in their lives every day and every way.
