This is a good start for those who can't afford the big university tuitions. If you thrive in a social environment and lack support back home this is NOT for you. It's hard to succeed at anything without good support, and you won't get much support within this community college system. There's no greek life, no sense of camaraderie in the student body, no intramural or college sports. It's very difficult to build lasting friendships with people who are only going to be around a year or two..

AND if you are like me and don't thrive in this academic environment, don't be STUPID. Get out while you still can, do something else for a couple years until you're ready to come back to college and have a better idea of what you want to do. No shame in working for a couple years, joining the Americorps, Military, or at the very least the Peace Corps (can't do certain things as an American if you join the Peace Corps, research it). You can still hang around and party with the people you're hell-bent on impressing when you're working full-time, even if it's flipping burgers.. Hell you'd be the only one in your age group with some income that isn't out of the financial aid office (which is steady and trustworthy). If your first or second semester is a flop (second for me, big time), go do something meaningful with your life before you damage your GPA (which took me years to fix.. I'm 24 and I still don't have my AAS degree b/c I raped my GPA after trying so hard to be the cool kid on campus, don't be that stupid). A very good piece of advice for those who know what field they want to get into: find out who the dean of your department is, go to them in office hours and introduce yourself and let them know your interests and intentions. This could be very beneficial to you finishing your course load, getting internship or co-op opportunities, and getting you out of this school and putting you in the workforce asap.
