Cleveland State University is a school in a transformation. In the past, the school had open admissions and was a pretty depressing place to be, hence the name "Concrete" State University, but this description is not true today, in my opinion. Cleveland State is putting a lot of money into new campus buildings and renovations. A few years ago they opened the new studetn center which is a very nice building. It has many areas to grab a bite to eat or find a seat to study in. Plans are in the works to build a new builidng for the Health sciences and many other buildings are going through renovations. I am glad to see this because the university was not very aesthetically pleasing in the past, but today it's not so bad! As far as academics, the most important thing at a college, I would say that CSU is about average. It is challenging but nothing that an average student couldn't handle. Some professors only assign busy work and others make you work for your grade, it just really depends. Some majors obviously are harder than others, science majors typically being more difficult than say anthropology or communication. For my major, I feel prepared for futher graduate study after graduation. I would reccommend CSU to prospective students because the university is really improving and the changes are exciting to see. The academics are improving and admission standards are going up. I have heard the university wants to increase the entrance requirements again, which will only benefit students who choose to attend csu. I will caution students, that CSU has a "big city" feel to it so you must be independent and be able to figure things out on your own a bit, but after all, thats what life is about.
