I have attended UMass Lowell because it is really affordable. If you are looking for both academically challenging material as well as affordability, it is here. There are some things that I think are good to know before enrolling here, one being that the social scene is non existent. There is little to do, many students do not have vehicles in order to leave Lowell do go anywhere, and students here are friendly but do not seem to be looking to form friendships. Also, while there are more females on south campus, the university is almost entirely male. If you are a girl looking for friends who will not all be guys look elsewhere. Guy friends are great but not all the time. Also, social connections can be difficult to maintain since many of the students are commuters; it is even difficult for two commuters to be friends.I lived both on and off campus and I can tell you that the dorm scene was just boring.I think if you are someone who is simply looking to take classes and nothing more, this is a good value. If you are looking to make connections, go someone else.
