NIU is huge about GREEK life, but that's all. So if your social life doesn't revolve around greek orgs than this is not the place for you socially. The surrounding city is HORRIBLE. It is in the middle of no where land and because theres nothing around but the school everything (ex, police & businesses) is focused around the school. They don't have a diverse group of teachers education backgrounds, meaning most of my professors got thier PHD from NIU which says a lot. Lots of busy work, they kind of just shove information down your neck and expect you to learn it. They don't allow too much creativity either so for more bright students that is an should be a problem, because you will get bored doing busy work. Pro is that is is a smaller school most classes aren't that large, but for the price you pay ($21,000 ave.) most would be better off at UIC or UIUC. As for me, I just got into UIC so I will be transfering. :)
