Note: If you want a full review start right below this, if not skip to the last paragraph. The school itself is rather small and nice with a nice town surrounding it. The school offers scholarships and tons of financial aid to those that need it. Tuition and books can also be paid for with FAFSA depending on how much you get. Over all not a bad place to go if you're trying to save money. Where the college gets bad is its strength in professors. I've had a few great professors but the ones that we're bad really just ruined the experience of great professors. I dreaded, and still dread, math courses as they don't have any strong math teachers that I've run across. I've studied for hours on end on each chapter and still find myself at risk at times in math. There's also a few professors where I could literally just snooze off and still get a 3.0 on the assignment. The grade doesn't bother me, as much as, knowing that I've literally wasted almost three hours of my very limited time on someone who couldn't even make the subject their teaching interesting enough to stay awake. When you do hit even a moderately competent professor you've struck gold. That person will inspire you to keep working hard and studying, the problem is that finding one is rare. The part where things get really rough is the counseling office. When I first entered Schoolcraft, I was told I could transfer to Michigan State University in one years time if I took certain classes. I took the first semester classes and had a 3.114 GPA, math having hurt it badly. when I came back I mentioned transferring and was given a puzzled look from the counselor. She asked where I heard that from and told me i'd actually be there until winter instead of just transferring in fall. So I took classes that would have served a better purpose long term. Ironically enough when I talked to Michigan State's representatives they told me I could have transferred in fall. They also said it was no longer possible because I would need a semester of in between time after I completed the one class I needed. It turned out that most of the stuff on my schedule I really didn't need. It seemed more like the counseling office cared more about keeping me at their school than serving my needs. Which is why i'm strongly considering just setting on another university rather than just stay at Schoolcraft.Another drag is the social life, or lack of one. At a community college I guess you could expect there to not be a huge social life on campus. However even most of the classes are dead at any time of day. People are generally nice if you get to know them. But many are just like zombies and really tough to make the initial approach with. The closest thing you'll get to good contact is if you luck out and get a very lively professor who drags a class out of their shell. Or the weight room which has a few interesting characters. Don't count on sporting events either most people don't know and don't care to know whats going on with the teams. This place is like a duller version of high school but without the jocks because they mostly got recruited. Its easily affordable, gives you a second chance, and decent for finding out what your niche might be. But honestly if you can do go somewhere else or jump right into a university. The money I saved isn't worth it and I often complain with classmates, friends, and family about how I wish I could be else where. It's driven me so far as to strongly consider not even bothering with MSU and going either to the MAC or Big East conferences for a better experience.
