Major: Public Health (This Major's Salary over time)
HPU has a low standard of education. Seemingly, many professors who have done their part for the scientific community have come here to retire in Hawaii and work at the same time. Granted, many of them are extremely bright and accomplished, however these credentials do not necessarily make them eligible to teach those who come to learn. Their intellect is uncanny but they seem to absorb themselves with banter amongst the top 1% of their students on past experiences in the field that have nothing to do with the class and leave most of us confused and uneducated on the material needed. Attendance is taken into consideration, so if [not] learning in class isn't your thing, then skipping class to do your own work and study (on top of the other 16 credits you have) won't work either because you'll get docked points which lowers your grade. Here is some advice to HPU, we are grown-people. If university students don't come to class because your classes don't live up to expectations, don't dock points. We pay for it, it's our education. Unless it is an attendance based class like an internship, don't hassle us, you are not the only class we have. The program was repetitive. I learned the same thing in my senior year, maybe 4 times from different classes. Here is some advice for students:If you want an easy degree, this place is for you. You might get your money's worth if you're only looking for a piece of paper and can't get in anywhere else. However, if you're looking for a good education in science, health, pre-physical therapy, pre-chiropractic or anything similar, look somewhere else. WARNING to pre-physical therapy and pre-anything students. HPU only prepares you for certain schools that they are linked to (maybe 2-3). These schools take their own students first and there are not many spots at all. I got screwed over because i wanted to apply for other programs in other universities, but they all needed WAY MORE pre-requisites. HPU makes you take 3 years at HPU and then tells you to move somewhere else WITHOUT GIVING YOU A DEGREE. It isn't until after your first year of PROFESSIONAL school (30-50 K a year) that they give you your UNDERGRADUATE degree. If you don't complete your first year, you don't get any degree at all.
