Major: History/Histories (art history/etc.) (This Major's Salary over time)
Because a majority of the student population is extremely apathetic (because they came to play sports) or close-minded (because petro is such a popular major and petro generally attracts conservative students), there are a lot of opportunities for students who want to be successful and who understand the bureaucratic channels.

However, the major, major, major drawback for me is the social environment. I feel like I'm in high school. The student population is so small that everyone knows everyone else's business. I hate saying that cliche, but it's really true. You can't have a one-night stand without everyone knowing about it. Faculty often participate in the gossip which perpetuates the hs-like atmosphere. I was worried about going to a big university and not making connections, but here I feel overly connected. I can't get coffee on campus without running into at least 3 or 4 people I know when I need time to myself.

Dating is TERRIBLE. Like I said before, everyone gossips so everyone knows who's hooking up with whom. If you burn a bridge with someone, you will see that person in multiple classes, in the dining hall, on campus, probably at your work study…it goes on… just because campus is so, so, so small.

A lot of students come here from rural areas and think Marietta is much more prestigious than it is simply because it's private. I live 2 hours away from MC and attended a reputable hs. No one knew about MC.

There's talk about the campus going dry, which would further stifle the social environment because it's centered around partying since there is no where to go in the area to do anything cultural. You have to drive at least to Athens, which if you're looking to Athens as a big town, you've got a problem. If partying is you're thing, this campus fits in a lot of senses, but just know you will be partying with the same people for 4 years because (I CAN'T EMPHASIZE ENOUGH) campus is so incredibly small.

I like Marietta because I have a lot of opportunities as a self-motivated student, but the social drawbacks significantly outweigh the positives.

Marietta isn't the right fit for a lot of people and it's something you need to be warned about when choosing this school. I was hesitant to come to MC and ended up here as a fall-back school. I read other reviews and doubted the pessimistic comments, but they are honestly true. I've had some great experiences with some people, but THE REVIEWS ARE TRUE.

Be sure you're ready for a repeat of high school.
