Major: English (This Major's Salary over time)
Overall, McDaniel isn't a horrible school. One gets the feeling that many professors truly care and take a genuine interest in students and the learning process. It seems as well, that the school is spending a lot of money to spruce up its image and its 3rd-class athletics program. Meanwhile, the theatre department is suffering so if you are an actor or tech person, this is NOT the college for you! The theatre is falling apart and gets funding through a government grant, NOT the school. In the two years I've been here tuition has increased from 39K/yr to 45K/yr. That seems extreme to me and given the current expenditures also seems a bit disproportionate to spending in areas outside of athletics, again a 3rd rate division. In addition, the cafeteria, so called GLAR or Englar Dining Hall is a source of constant concern for students. There has been an outbreak of gastroenteritis each of my two years here. The food quality and service in the dining hall is at best, questionable. The employees there, all Sodexo except for a few students, seem to be miserable run down and defeated people who are angry most of the time. The portion sizes are also far too little and while you may have as much as you want but they dole it out in bird-size portions then tell you to come back for more…good luck NOT getting an attitude when you go back for thirds! There are approximately 3000 students on campus each semester and yet there is one dining hall, one fast food style place called the Pub which is predominantly fried and unhealthy foods, and the coffee shop on campus. They recently closed the fourth and consequently healthiest option leaving only these three. There is also a convenience store on campus which carries a wide variety of ridiculously overpriced items. The most egregious of which is the $7 jar of peanut butter. The wellness center has turned me, and others claim the same, away from receiving any mental health help which I clearly am in need of, however, the general feeling for me is that they would rather send you somewhere else, thereby avoiding dealing with the situation. They outsource you and then say they helped when in fact they did little to nothing beside pointing you AWAY from them!I am ready to leave and hopefully will get away from here but I?d think twice before committing to this school if I were you!
