Major: Computer Science (This Major's Salary over time)
The quality of professors is a mixed bag. Some are excellent but some should truly NOT be educators. The book rental system is an extortion tactic. You rent your books and if there is a bend, crease, water stain, markings, or damaged edges on a book you're returning, they will make you pay for it. The people who make the decisions on whether or not a book was damaged are just a bunch of clowns with power trips who enjoy making someone have a bad day. It's never happened to me personally but I've seen them do it to many other students. Why not just have to students buy them outright in the first place? The parking permits ($100-140+) are another scheme by the school to steal even more money from you. Even paying that much doesn't allow you to park anywhere near the class buildings and nor did it help prevent any of the three armed robberies in the parking lots which happened within the past two years. There is also the option of paying for metered parking($1/hr).Another issue is the amount of class sections available per semester. Many students get pushed back a semester or two because of the school only offering one section of any given CORE class per semester. Once their only available class is full, they pretty much say you're screwed.As for the social scene: there isn't one. Over 21? There are a few crappy bars in downtown Edwardsville but due to the city making money off of D.U.I.s, they've banned any type of taxi service. Pretty clever. Not only is the school going to extort money from you, the city will too.My advice: spend more money on a quality school.
