Major: Education (This Major's Salary over time)
I'm from York, PA and when I was looking at colleges and applying I only wanted to apply to Ship. I was dead set on being a student at what I thought would be an absolutely amazing college. My opinion had greatly changed of Shippensburg and I am transferring to Penn State next year.

Things that I still like about Ship:

  • I have made some of the most amazing friends here.
  • There are ton of clubs to get involved in.
  • The campus is absolutely gorgeous.
  • Some teachers are very nice, helpful, and just want to see there students succeed. I've been here for a summer semester (I wanted to take classes to get ahead), and a fall and spring semester. I have taken 12 classes here (36 credits) and I have had 3 teachers that have had inspired me, challenged me, and made me want to learn. But this was only 3 out of the 12 teachers I have had.
  • Things that have turned me off to Ship:

  • I was told only positive things about professors, classes, and my major-Some, not all, were absolute lies. For me, my high school prepared very well for college. I have only taken Gen Eds. so far but half of them I learned nothing because what I did learn was a repeat of high school
  • Elementary Ed majors (those who graduate after 2013) can not get a minor
  • It is difficult to take more that 15 credits per semester (16-17 if you have 4 credit class). I know other colleges that allow 18-21 credits, and if Ship allowed 18 credits per semester then it would be possible for El Ed majors to fit in a minor.
  • There is nothing to do here. The mall in Chambersburg is horrible, the town isn't what it used to be, and people go to Wal Mart and Sheetz for fun. There is a huge drinking scene here and while I don't care if people drink or not, there isn't much to do for those who do not drink or get high.

    The reasons I am transferring:

    1. I am not being challenged academically.

    2. I can't get a minor with my major.

    3. I am going to get ESL certified when I transfer to PSU, which in the long run will help me to get a job.

    4. I can only take 15 credits and then have to waiver in to get 18.

Shippensburg may have a pretty campus and I may have made some great friends,
