Major: Social Work (This Major's Salary over time)
I came to UIS as freshman. I lived about 3 hours north of Springfield. When I came in as a freshman, I was very homesick. I live in LRH for my first two years as a part of the CAP program. I don't know what I would have done without the kindness I experienced my freshman year. I was a first generation college student, and my parents were less than helpful with understanding buying books, financial aid, etc. I felt really alone and Karen Coleman was fantastic at helping me through some of the freshman issues I experienced. Had it not been for her and a few others on campus, I probably would have dropped out and transferred out. After I overcame the hardships of freshman year, I made the best of friends on campus! I love them to this day. Some of the shenanigans that we encountered were priceless. Springfest (which is held every year during the spring semester) is one of the BEST events at UIS. The best event of Springfest would have to be MUD TUG OF WAR. My team was crowned mud tug of war champions during my sophomore year. The town of Springfield LOVES Lincoln. I don't even know how many times I've been to all the FREE activities with visitors from home. The downtown area is pretty neat, there are craft shops and cafes. The feed store has great food during lunch time! (They're only open 11-3 during the week). I loved my experience at UIS. I don't know that I could have been as successful if I attended a larger school. If you want to find something to do on campus, you just have to look, be it alcohol related or not.
