Date: May 16 2013
Major: Other (This Major's Salary over time)
Do not waster your tiem and enroll in the Health Information Program. I graduate from this program in 2010, and Im still making below average salary. You should go into Nursing, Pharmacist, Computer Science, Computer or Electical Engeneering. They are the better career options, much better pay. With an HIM Degree you will be competing with people with high school diploma for jobs, and there are very few high pay jobs in the industry. This program is not like other programs, such as nursing, where they have to hire somebody with a license. I have seen many HIM Managers go after employees who have left the company on bad terms, go after the employees internally, by saying the employee was bad to other area Managers. This is a very close knit industry, all Manager talk to each other. One bad experience could potentially harm your professional career.

Cons: Low pay; no room for career growth; competing with people with high shcool diploma for jobs; Managers talk to each other at state meetings; Managers favors students coming from specific schools over others; You will struggle to find Co-ed; Leaving any jobs in HIM department on bad terms= may prevent you from finding other jobs in the area, since all the Managers communicate with each other.

This is a terrible career option, do not go into HIM Field, you will regret it.
