Major: Geography and Geosciences (This Major's Salary over time)
I am very happy with my decision to attend CSR. The student body is great, the faculty, especially in the science department, are amazing. I would say that my favorite part is the small class sizes. If you don't like having to actively participate in class, then Strose probably isn't the school for you. Geology is a very hands-on major, but many of my liberal ed classes were discussion-based as well. I wouldn't go so far to say that the school "holds your hand" and does not prepare you well enough for real life. Instead I would say that the faculty emphasize the importance of networking and will help you establish excellent professional connections. Yes, parts of Albany are dirty and unsafe, but that goes for all cities. There are also beautiful and safe parts of the city, and there is so much to do if you take the time to look, especially with the CDTA buses being free with student ID's. Strose security does a good job keeping the students safe, but wandering off campus in the middle of the night is not a good idea no matter where you go to school. Also, as annoying as the limited parking/expensive parking permits are, it's a trade-off for wanting a school in a city. People get annoyed that we have prof's with thick accents, but I think we're incredibly fortunate to have such a diverse faculty. Every international professor I've had has never had a problem repeating themselves if a student didn't understand them. In fact, it's appreciated.I will complain as much as the next person about how expensive everything is, but when it comes down to it Strose is a private college and they need to get their money from somewhere. I don't think I've ever met a college student that doesn't think they're paying too much…Many of the liberal ed classes we have to take can be frustrating and irrelevant, but they're not bad if you make the best of it. I mean, you did sign up for a Liberal Arts school…No matter where you end up, your education will be what you make of it. Thanks to my department, I am very confident that I will succeed in the professional world!
