Major: Education (This Major's Salary over time)
The Master of Education in Instructional Technology was challenging. It also allowed me to incorporate my current work environment/experience into my assignments. Most instructors were competent and had many years of experience in the area of education as well as Instructional Technology. However, there was only one instructor that did not adequately prepare me for the field of instructional technology. I believe that it would have been more appropriate if they entitled the degree program instructional design instead of instructional technology. The curriculum at that time (2006-2007) seemed to be focused more on the Instructional Design aspect. Also, the program is in need of a field experience component to help learners understand instructional design in a more thorough way. In addition, it is way overpriced in comparison to similar M.Ed online programs in education. Advising needs to recruit learners that are current teachers, hold a undergraduate degree in education, have relevant experience, have relevant coursework or hold current teacher certifications. Students need to have a educational foundation in order to understand and expand their knowledge of the field of education. My M.Ed has surely helped me get into a teaching position after I gained teacher certification else where. It also provided me with a pay increase that my district offers. Is the degree as reputable as I would like it to be? Well no. But it serves the purpose of a pay increase, advanced knowledge, and holding an advanced degree.
