I'm a graduate of the HIT Program at Laboure College, I have read some of the reviews about Health Information Degree Program on the board, I somewhat agree with it. Compared to other school offering HIM program in the Boston Area, Laboure far the best options. I have heard terrible things about other schools in the Boston area that offers the HIM Program from co-workers, and other HIT professionals. I don't hear much complain about Laboure.I agree with that Managers talk to each other about Colleges that offer HIM programs, and sometimes they do go after former employees. You just have to established yourself first in the industry, then it won't matter what somebody is saying about you. If you have a skill that they need they will hire you regardless of what anybody is saying. It's just like anyother industry, if you good at something they will look the other way.So, work on establishing your credentials, and it won't matter what other managers are saying.I know AHIMA is trying to crack down on this practice, because it is against the law for an employer to call another and talk bad about a former employee. Employers by law are not even allowed to provide the reason for separation. It is against the law, so don't worry about the gossiping that goes on in the HIM industry. Just focused on selecting a good college/university, there are many out there, be careful some of the colleges have been blacklisted by local area healthcare facilities. Do your research before applying for any HIM school, even if is listed on AHIMA website.
