Oh Hofstra how my mind does wonder…..

I'm a semester ahead of my graduating class because of APs I took in high school. Even though I'm taking summer classes and more than the minimum hours every semester I'm probably going to graduate on time because the education program requires an entire semester free for student teaching.

While I love the school because I'm not into greek life, and all the drinking and potential crime that goes along with it. I do not love the neighborhood that surrounds our school. Garden City is nice, but Hofstra is in Hempstead (and yes a girl was shot a block off campus last May). I love being able to go into NYC without being literally IN NYC.

The campus is beautiful in spring. I love to sit out with my friends (as long as my allergies aren't acting up too much).

Some of the faculty is great. Most classes are small (as in under 30 students). Classes are mostly taught by tenured professors (except some of them decide to dislike you because of your presumed socioeconomic background which is a load of bull for people like me because I come from a good family).

The tuition is expensive AVERAGE SCHOLARSHIP FOR NON ATHLETES IS AROUND $12,000 A YEAR, TUITION IS CLOSE TO $50,000 IF YOU LIVE ON CAMPUS

Athletics aren't that great, and a few teams (ie basketball, etc) have permanently marred reputations. If you are an athlete explore ALL of your options before deciding to come here! No football team at all!!!!!!!

I didn't really like it here at all at first. Then I got invited to join honors college, and dude that's where it's at. It's almost not even worth coming here unless you can get into honors college. Free trips into the city, free dinners, and a cool lounge and more mature student community are all offered in the honors college.

MEAL PLANS ARE SO EXPENSIVE. My parents send me bulk packs of food from amazon to save money.

All in all, with any major life decision, think carefully and explore all your options before committing to any one school. As a co major in history and education I can say the school of education does have a positive reputation. AND WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T GO HERE A YEAR AND THEN BE ALL LIKE "I'M GOING TO TRANSFER TO A PUBLIC SCHOOL AFTER THIS SEMESTER" that's the stupidest waste of your money and time ever. You could spend up to an additional year in school, and end up retaking classes you already have credit for. MAKE UP YOUR MIND AND STICK WITH THE CHOICES THAT YOU MAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
