I was deeply disappointed in Sonoma State University. Their social life had too many boring clean cut snooty superpopular jock type people from big cities in California. I mangaed to fit in socially with people who avoided everyone at SSU by constantly escaping to San Francisco as soon as they could instead of studying. No one who impressed me with their abilities needed to do a ton of studying to ace their classes.

Sonoma State was annoyingly laid back to me and ironically stuck up with all those California type people. Sonoma State is great for uneducated people who want to turn things around because the classes were annoyingly easy and professors held your hand and made SSU feel like a trap where you are superviased. This combo is great for uneducated people who just want to learn to deal with basic college level material and learn to eventually excel. It didn't work for me. I felt too annoyed by how easy and stupid some assignment questions were to feel motivated. I felt like I was not getting a good education if I was already educated.

I loved the surrounding area in Sonoma. Beautiful countryside, half decent weather to me as a San Diegan. Safe neighborhood not too far from better cities in the Bay Area. Good restauraunt options for a small town.

Everyone interesting desappeared from campus or studied. Again, annoying conformist social life for people into fratnernithy or sorority BS.

Basically I was disappointed in the academic and social options because it was too much for normal people. Too many boring college kids who haven't learned to be interesting. Classes that were not challenging enough to be interesting enough to distract me from reading whatever I wanted at the library.

Sonoma State had this slick marketing and presented itself as this great school for unique people who were eager to learn. Instead I found a boring extension of junior college with slow paced people who could have been friendlier.

I was looking for a cool independent Bay Area experience that would be more intellectual. Instead I found all these boring jock and cheerleader kids fresh from living with parents and felt trapped in classes not that different from high school! I also felt too surrounded by spoiled suburban white Christians!

Great location, ridiculously helpful professors, mediocre social options, typical college experience type classes. I found their lack of diversity to be problematic for many of us.

Professors were not perfect, but they were much better than professors at most colleges except for this one professor who gave the dumbest most loopy assignments and grading ever.

Go to Sonoma State if you love being a big fish in a small pond as a gifted person. Or if you are not a gifted person but have a good or great work ethic. Their academics were annoyingly easy, but their academic programs are great for peoplw who need to sharpen their skills because of being less educated. It's also great for international students who need personal attention because they didn't score well enough on TOEFL exams so they need help with ENglish and are eager to learn.

It's easier to fit in at SSU if spoiled typical Californian white suburbanite jocks don't annoy you with their spoiled self entitlement. I thought that being surrounded by white people from suburbia would not be a problem for me as a white person from suburbia, but I felt a huge culture clash because I was raised by ghetto minorities who were not related.

I felt like a big fish in an insanely small pond surrounded by brats at the time. Sonoma State is great for a lot of people because of its accessible professors, good variety of class subjects, campus events, laid back vibe. It has amazing perks beyond other colleges, but I hated SSU because I was not cut out for the social atmosphere or the normal rigor classes.

I really hated SSU because I was disgusted by how administrators overhyped it and that set me up for disappointment. SSU is an extension of a better junior college in suburbia in America. That works for a ton of people. It did't work out for me.
