The top five universities that grant the most doctoral degrees to African Americans are ranked as follows: Howard University, Nova Southeastern University, University of Michigan, Walden University and the University of Maryland. In its mission to support diversity and social change, Walden has also been at the forefront of challenging conventional thinking in education with its online delivery, and has thus opened undergraduate and graduate degree opportunities to adult learners with families that otherwise could not afford the time or lost wages to pursue Masters or Ph.D. degrees. Today, in large part due to Walden and other proprietary universities, nearly every regionally accredited university in the United States has online degree programs, which is testament to the validity and trustworthiness of online programs. Moreover, Walden's quarter-century of continuous accreditation also proves their high standards of educational rigor and mission.

Much of the stated complaints in this review board on Walden University are full of misinformation. For instance, the current graduate tuition at Walden is only $470 per credit, which is comparable or below the cost of most graduate universities. Any of the alleged doubling or tripling of so-called costs is a result of the student taking more financial aid than is necessary to cover their educational costs. This is the student's choice, and is a situation at any university.

My experience at Walden has been positive. The financial aid office is helpful and courteous, the student services department is always available and helpful, and advisors are able and willing to assist quickly and informatively. Walden has assured me over again that they want me to succeed, but I also have to perform quality work in order to do so.

Like any university, most of the learning is achieved through independent reading, discussions, and writing assignments. This is also the case at Walden University. Likewise, the number of complaints regarding limited access to professors is simply naive. Access to professors at any university is limited, and pretty much no matter what university you attend; the vast majority of the learning is performed by the individual themself. No graduate students at any university are being taught one-on-one all the information a course provides. Anyone that has gone to graduate school knows that most of the course information is disseminated through assigned reading, writing assignments, lab work, and course discussion - very little course information is actually conveyed directly by course professors.

This web site should screen the negative posts more carefully; they seem to be from the same misinformed and disgruntled individuals over again. Likewise, anyone reading the negative posts should be able to tell from the writing quality that the complainer is probably at fault, not Walden?s.
