Major: Education (This Major's Salary over time)
In general a positive experience. I happened to find a class where I felt connected to the university, my colleagues and research. For a successful Ph.D. program you have to have goals. Mine was completion of the Ph.D- no ABD for a long period of time! 2. Present at conferences. 3. TA for a professor. 4. Publish. I was able to do all of those while at CGU. My negatives had to do with course selection- pretty pitiful and cost! I have well over 100K in loans. I am very fortunate to have 3.5% interest rate on payback. I also had and continue to have a great job that pays well. However, I would hate to have to rely on finding a job after CGU. I don't think it improves students prospects of finding good employment unless you consider being a "freeway flyer" adjunct professor. Also, so many of my colleagues never have finished the Ph.D. The university has responded by watering down the program by reducing the number of qualifying exams from 4 to 3. I had to do 4 quals! The Ph.D. is no longer the same if it was attained after 2010.
