Oglethorpe University is a bad, bad place to be. Aside from maybe two or three of my professors, I haven't enjoyed any classroom experience here at OU. Most professors here believe that they teach at Harvard or something. Let me tell you, that is not the case. They are unapproachable, arrogant and in some cases not very knowledgeable in the classes they teach.

I realize this is harsh, but I have more to say about this place…

Oglethorpe University runs a pretty high tuition. Their technique to get you into this school is by giving you a solid first year scholarship and dropping it or reducing it as soon as possible. If you combine this with the hidden or mysterious additional fees they charge you throughout the year will leave you with tens of thousands of dollars in student debt for your future. Worse than most schools in the area and worse than most other schools I've researched.

I live in an absolute dump. I've had mold build up in my room for close to two months now due to AC and pipe leakage. What else should I expect though, I live practically in a dorm that is older than the college itself. Along with the mold problem in my dorm, there have been complaints of rats, pests, caving ceilings, etc…

Oh yeah, by the way, I LIVE HERE! For eight months a year or so! Not exactly a great set up I have.

Oglethorpe University will do anything for a dime. Constantly they rent out facilities to organizations which prohibits students from using the resources they have given to us. They do it all just to make a quick buck. Also, the amount of EF students here is incredibly annoying. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for diversity… but when Oglethorpe hosts 300 EF kids every semester who stay up partying into the depths of the night (every night), keeping you awake and ruining your night… it sucks. At least some of the girls are good looking. That is about the only benefit of hosting them (coming from a full-time students perspective). Keep in mind, the University makes money hosting these people.

I'm part of the athletics program. On a team, but I won't mention which team because if the University reads this they'd probably do something crazy like double my tuition or try to lynch me… (they'd find a way to make it legal). But anyways, the men's golf and soccer teams are both pretty successful. School spirit is fairly low, unfortunately. The sports program here is poor at best as a whole. I do though, really admire the Athletic Director here. She does a really good job and is fair about everything. Most of the facilities need work, though.

Back to professors, which almost slipped my mind… I find it incredibly amazing how Oglethorpe professors make you feel like a number. Part of the reason I came here was because I was drawn to the small class sizes and hands on learning. Most of my professors have no clue who I am, what class of theirs I belong to and if I even show up to their class. What else do you need to take care of other than your students while at work? This school is tiny! You really don't have that many students! Get to know me! I swear I'm not a bad person! Super frustrating when professors have no idea who you are in a class of 15 people.

Oglethorpe has a really nice appearance. The baseball field is always groomed well, the beautiful buildings on the front side of campus are always lit up at night. Aesthetically, this is a fairly nice campus and is pretty well taken care of (aside from a few of the dated dorm halls).

One last thing before I finish. I have never seen so many freaks of nature on one campus. If you're not an athlete or part of an organization, odds are you were that kid in preschool eating glue in the corner of the room. So many kids here who just don't get it socially.

Greek life is Greek life. I hate it, I'll leave it at that.

Anyways, unless you're reading this and chewing on a glue stick, I do not recommend Oglethorpe. I have had a really rough two years here and am trying like heck to get out.

But hey, it's just advice. Go out there and do whatever you want to do!
