I'm going to be honest because I wish someone would have been with me. The school is ginormous. Many class sizes exceed 250 students. In said classes, interaction with the professor is nearly impossible. The professor will likely look down upon their students and devalue them as human beings. Emails will go unanswered. Very diverse, which is charming and exotic at first, but soon grows old when your professor doesn't speak English well enough to teach your class (this has occurred many instances for me). Fresh dining hall, campus consists of a series of streets and intermingled alleyways. Very little green space. Off campus parties sketchy, to say the least. Night time can be dangerous. Richmond is vast, yet unappealing to most. Has a separate culture from the northern part of the state. Crime is rampant and a part of life. Despite this, extremely heavy police presence. Many homeless. Student body that primarily wants to have fun (drugs, drinking). Feels like you are just a number. Magnificent gym. Nationally recognized basketball team makes things fun. At times, can be enjoyable… other times not. A little bit of everything here. Definitely not the typical college experience… in any way. After freshman year, you will be essentially forced move out into the city and find your own housing, where things can get very interesting.
