READ THIS: I'M TELLING YOU STRAIGHT UP WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT FGCU

REPUTATION: FGCU is a good school that nobody knew about until they dominated in b-ball (you will realize that most of the money got the b-ball team). Even then most people I tell "I goto FGCU" they don't know the school or where it is and that gets annoying. But don't make you decision on this.

LOCATION: FGCU seems like it would have a good location but it really doesn't. The school is located literally in a swamp/forest which makes it buggy and gross. There is no surrounding city Ft. Myers and Naples are both at least a 20min drive and the only place outside of the school you will go is the Gulf-coast Towncenter which is extremely limited even if there is a shit ton of shoppes in there.

CAMPUS: FGCU has a nice campus (Its brand new) but it lacks character and the way it is set up is really annoying. Your thinking you won't have a lot of walking at FGCU because its a small campus but they put all the academic buildings in a straight line which mean if you class is a the very end (which is pretty likely) you have to do a lot of walking even if you take the bus. Schools like UCF and FSU clump the building together which is so much more efficient. On top of that the 2 residential (dorm) areas are branched off of the campus like islands making it so annoying to get to campus it take 20mins and taking the bus normally takes longer unless you don't have to wait (it is hard to explain look on a map and you will see).

INTERNET: Kind of weird to talk about but really important. First it is extremely hard to connect to the wifi; I had to take my phone and MAC/PC (I switched halfway in the semester) to tech support so they could do it form me and I wasn't the only person who did that (there was a huge line). You had to download an anti virus which completely slowed down my MAC. Once you are connected you will feel like you aren't connected because it is so slow. I had to sit in the hall sometimes to use my computer.

NIGHTLIFE: To easily sum up it sucks dick. There are 2 places to go cadillac (a hole the wall) and Keys Bar which is okay its small and its in a shopping mall which is weird. Because there is only 2 places they get filled easily and the first couple weeks of the semester we couldn't get in to them. So you find yourself drinking on campus which is just sad.

FOOD: Also sucks… Kind of. There are actually good commercial food chains to pick from like Chick fil a, taco bell, subway, blu sushi, and einstein bagels. Pretty good but they are all located on campus which can take 20mins to get to so if your a freshmen you will eat at SO VI (located with in the freshman dorms) the food tastes okay but its fake as shit. I would literally get sick from the food like I always felt sick and it sucked. North Lake Village (upper class-men dorms) have full kitchens; need I say more.

FREE TIME: You get a lot of free time in college. I recommend taking more than 4 classes or getting a job. Even if you hang out with your friends a shit ton you still have so much time on your hands. The only thing there is to do is go to the pool and if was cold or raining you had nothing to do but watch TV. To sum up there is very little to do.

All in all I would not recommend FGCU. I know it was a negative review but thats the truth no bias. The things the offer sound good on paper like the food places and a beach on campus but you never end up using them that much. Like the fact you can rent the boat and go tubing or whenever, at orientation everybody said they were going to do it… I don't know a single person who did. I'm not saying this is a bad school it just not a real university like FSU, UF, USF ect. If your the person who can't wait to go to school and go to parties and just have fun FGCU isn't your school, yes there are parties just not a lot. Another thing to leave you with, literally 90% of my friends are leaving or are going to leave after spring myself included; I need a real school with real fun.
