Major: Sociology (This Major's Salary over time)
I transferred into the University of Montana from a small town in southern Maryland after attending community college. UM offered an amazing criminology focus in their Sociology major, and an absolute ton of outdoor activity. The Outdoor Rec program offers everything from classes in Whitewater kayaking, mountain climbing, and cross country skiing, to renting tents, canoes, and mountain bikes. My professors are incredible, i've never had professors with nobel prizes and other amazing resumes. Campus could not be prettier, Mount Sentinel and the famous "M" are a dominating part of the landscape. Campus is always full of school pride, and buzzing with events or activities in the Oval. People on campus are very friendly and including, especially in the first few months of school. The Food Zoo makes good food, and offers four different lines of food. However one of the lines is the same every day, and gets boring. There are lots of on campus food options other than the Zoo, including pizza hut, a burger place, sushi, sandwiches, and amazing 5 coffee shops. If you venture outside of campus and into Missoula, you can find an INCREDIBLE bar scene, with live bands, parties, everything you can imagine there is a bar for that. There are both great casual and high end dining options in town too, if you are willing to walk. Campus, and Missoula are small enough for the most part that driving isn't absolutely necessary, but can be nice on occasion. Be ready for cold winters if you aren't from the northwest. My first semester it dipped to -22 with windchill for a few days. Out of state students often get a scholarship. My last piece of advice would be, if you aren't an outdoorsy person I would think hard about attending this school. There is plenty of non outdoor stuff to do on and off campus, but the biggest feature of the school are its surrounding nature parks and activities, and the schools Outdoor rec program and beautiful campus recreation.
