This is a great school to attend. You have many resources available to you, and there are many activities you can get involved with. With that being said, I know there are a lot of people who complain about campus safety, which is the main reason I am doing this review. The truth is that College Park is very safe. People who say that College Park is "ghetto" have never actually lived in the "ghetto." Relative to the location the real crime happens south of College Park in the southeastern portion of D.C. and Prince George's County. Believe me when I say that College Park, especially on campus, is like heaven when being compared to places such as Capital Heights, Bladensburg, District Heights, Suitland, Congress Heights, etc. Many people like to bring up crime statistics in the area and on campus, but keep in mind a lot crimes that happen on campus are in fact committed by students. Yes, I know this may be hard to believe, but not everyone is perfect. College is a place where a lot of mental problems can start and there will be instances of rape, murder, etc. at a lot of college campuses. I am not trying to say that College Park is the best college town, but it is a lot better than people make it out to be. You can worry about safety all you want, but as long as you don't go out of your way to cause trouble, you will be safe. And if you are really that worried then stay away from the southmost green line stops on the metro, make sure you utilize the bus system, and stay on campus if possible (if you are a full time student with housing and a meal plan, there is no reason to be venturing off of campus)
