Major: PreVet and Veterinary (This Major's Salary over time)
As an Animal Science major with a concentration in Pre-Veterinary Medicine, this definitely was a good choice of school for me as the program for it is a good one. Something to keep in mind with the U of I is that it is a big research institution. This has positives and negatives that come along with it. There are friendly professors and students, loads of networking opportunities, clubs to get involved in, and friends to make. However it also means, extremely large lectures, sometimes professors that are too involved in their research to care about you as the student, late nights studying for an exam that the curve will be thrown off anyway, and the possibility of getting treated more like a number than a real person. As a student you have the chance of running into all of those things. One thing I did notice was that if you did not find your niche, you will be miserable and drowning in your studies. You want to keep busy! Stay involved! Do research with your professor! Make connections! But most importantly have fun and enjoy your time there. And yes, it is possible to do this without being a part of Greek life. I survived. But if Greek life is what you want, by all means do it, there's a place for you, there are SO many of them. There are club sports at Illinois that would be a better option for someone who likes to work hard but not necessarily party ALL the time. It just depends what you want. If you want someone to hold your hand through all your classes and give you a nice pretty GPA when you graduate, then this school may not be for you. However, if you are willing to experience new things, work hard for your education, and have a school with a good program to help you grow as not only a student, but as a person, this is the place for you.
