USF is a great school academically. The professors are extremely knowledgeable about their field and truly want students to learn. I have yet to come across a professor who has a bad attitude or clearly does not want to be teaching. Class sizes are small (usually no more than 35 students) so professors will know you by name which I think creates a better teacher-student relationship. The campus is beautiful and in the center of SF so there is always something to do. Although the campus is pretty small, you will be doing a lot of walking and going up/down stairs, but the views will be worth it. That being said, I would have to say a major drawback are the students. It's true, we do have a diverse campus although it is still primarily Caucasian/Asian. However, there is a certain attitude many students have and it's not a good one; it's a bit on the pretentious side and I'm not sure if this is because most students are very wealthy or if it's because living the city has given them a sense of entitlement, but these students are not hard to come by. I know a few kids who actually transferred because they either couldn't make friends or because they did not the student atmosphere was very welcoming. Of course, there are the cooler students who don't act like this, but they're hard to come by and for some reason this school is very cliquey (think high school) so if you haven't met friends within your first year it may be difficult to do so later. Of course the biggest drawback in general is the tuition. Right now it's 60K which is ridiculous and not even the highest quality education is worth that much (and this definitely isn't of the highest quality), but it is what it is. If you need financial aid, USF is very generous, but still most people are still unable to afford it. To conclude, if you are looking for a school with great professors, a nice-looking campus and don't mind pretentious people (you're in the middle of San Francisco so they're everywhere (but you're in SF which is the best city ever- so who cares)) then this is the place for you.
