1.Come here if you are looking for a good education and plan on rushing greek-life.

2.Don't come here if you are looking for unique college experiences and a place to exchange ideas and hobbies. Things to facilitate that exist here, but are much worse compared to any other school without a high commuter population.

3.It's better than a small school, because it has more opportunities, but is smaller. Don't skip out on UT because you are afraid of a big school.

4. . . You'll probably commute here anyways because all you care about is saving money.

Advice:

1.Don't get too attached to freshmen

2.Don't go to parties too far away from campus-highschoolers and shady drug dealers love these parties

3.Make the most out of it here: happiness can be found, but it takes a lot more work than at other schools.

University of Toledo is an interesting place. It's location is in the outskirts of a forgettable industrial city (comparable to Detroit with less charm and history) that requires a car for any kind of navigation. This university is the one thing that could save this city and bring it life, but instead the school just sits here.

Academically, the university of Toledo is great. The quality of education is comparable to OSU and MSU, but is has a closer-niched population. This makes personal connections between faculty and students is very easy to establish. UT has great sports teams with free admission to watch and nice facilities and perks to students. The campus is fairly big, but can be easily navigated on foot. It is fun to explore and there are lots of clubs and organizations to join. It is a big school, with a small school feel.

Toledo, however, is not a small school with almost 30,000 students why does this school feel small? It is because of the massive commuter population that plague UT. The commuters are the reason the library closes at 6pm on a weekend and the rec closes at 10pm on weekends. These two facilities are normally open until midnight on weekdays because that's when the commuters populate the campus. The commuters do not stay and contribute anything, but money to a campus that needs some life. All they do is show up, go to class, and leave. Which leaves many of the students feeling isolated from each other.

The Greeks, on the other hand, do the exact opposite, except only to other Greeks. Leaving to further isolation with the general student population. Greek life here is a step above other colleges, the university and general campus population treat them very very well.

Open enrollment (

we'll take you if you graduated
) makes the retention rate very low. 60% of people leave here after their first year. This makes sophomore year more life freshman year #2, in terms of social life. Long term connections with people are few and far between since so many of them leave. Also, it makes social events a little more ratchet and low-class.

Oh UT,

Where do I start? You have so much potential. Your potential drew me in from when I first layed my eyes upon your beautiful architecture, but now you are a mystery. I am trying to understand the complexities of your function, but the more I know, the more I am disappointed. I fear I must leave you for the sake of my happiness.

Love,

JC
