Ok, I am biased with my review because I was born and raised in Akron and love the city, I will admit that right off the bat. Realistically speaking, there are good things and bad things about UA like every college. The campus is very clean and safe in most areas ON campus, our sciences (particularly engineering and medical related are great, computer sciences too. Also, Summit College is a CC that is part of the University and has a good reputation as well. The music program is rigorous and our music education is ranked in the top 50 nationally.Faults: it's very difficult to get financial aid other than loans through the university as a continuing student, so I would try my best to find outside scholarships. Academic advisers, save for a few in BCAS are clueless. Anything over 16 credits per semester you have to pay per credit hour, which could be up to an extra $3000 almost for 18 credit hours. As far as crime rates go, yes there are incidents in campus, but be cautious. Avoid south Akron around Brown Street or Exchange/Arlington and West Akron, also North Hill along the Cuyahoga Falls border and you should be okay. Stick to Howe Avenue, Highland Square, Ellet, and Firestone Park as far as activities and safety.Academics are good overall, but it varies by program. I would recommend that you take your gen. Eds. Elsewhere during summer to save money and lighten your credit load.
