Major: Aerospace Engineering (This Major's Salary over time)
Within Aerospace Engineering, the program is fantastic. The professors are personal, dedicated, and passionate for their field and their students. While they (almost) all participate in active research in their fields, they recognize the importance of their teaching and advising responsibilities. The curriculum is well-structured and coordinated among the professors and even between departments to ensure you are truly prepared for each course after completing its prerequisites. The program is not for the faint of heart - we design vehicles that transport hundreds of passengers at nearly the speed of sound; there is no room in this field for incompetence, slip-ups, etc., and the professors understand that and are not afraid to tell students that this field is not for them. Also note that as a young (60ish year old) university, we simply cannot be as selective in admissions as as more established universities. So rather than doing our "weeding out" at admissions, we do it during your coursework. Consequently the graduation rates appear low and our acceptance rates appear high, and that's actually a good thing despite that it negatively influences data-driven ranking websites.

If you're an "A" H.S. student and looking for an exciting, young, mid-size university where you have direct access to industry professionals and the space coast, and a university administration in which you can be heard and have a say in the direction of the university, consider FIT. If you're a brilliant mind with a passion for engineering design and aircraft and spacecraft, but beyond-your-control life events caused you to not be the straight-A student in H.S. that you know you could be, FIT is also a great opportunity for a second shot.
