Major: Communications (This Major's Salary over time)
I transferred to UMKC from Tennessee two decades ago. At that time I lived in a house close to campus and was a single Mom. I can honestly say that in my chosen field I received an excellent education in Communications. I understand that there are some kids today that are having difficulty finding jobs but this may be a reflection of the economy; not so much the education they received. When I graduated I was committed to working in communications - advertising, marketing and PR. Even though my first job was for a major advertising agency in Nashville, I did have to begin on the bottom floor as a secretary. Today, I own my own business and have consistently worked in my area of focus. I felt that the teachers prepared me for my focus in in advertising and PR. The work was relevant, the teachers were accessible and the homework challenging. I felt prepared for the work world and my career demonstrates that I was given the tools to be successful. Don't judge a school for their ability to get you the job of your dreams. Be realistic. Being successful many times is based on your persistence, character, personality, the economy, luck, degree choice and more. I highly recommend this school for anyone pursuing Communications.
