"Shaw is what you make it" if you plan to go to this school be prepared to hear this about a dozen times. The education you receive is acceptable, as long as your not easily distracted this school accepts anybody period and makes it a hard case to advocate for or brag about. There is almost absolutely no Co-Ed if you plan to take your Mother/Father to your room be prepared to fight tooth and nail and if its before 12 in the afternoon women are not allowed to even stand in the lobby of the mens dorm. There is a bucket load of things that are "Contraband" inside the dormatory that students cannot have and per say you get caught with one of the many listed items of "contraband" the head of housing gets to take it and fine you for owning it. The bathrooms are disgusting and janitors do not clean them on weekends (really the just push the dirt around on the weekdays but anyhow) R/A's are expected to act like paid faculty members and they only get room taken of of tuition whereas surrounding schools R/As have room and board taken off. If you expect to feel safe at this school it really has a unwritten "fiend for yourself" rule when there is a fight usually one large one per semester our aged security team usually one guy takes there sweet time getting there and just pushes it off campus. (Ironically there are emergency posts placed around campus) Its frustrating going here because the school has such a excellent and rich history but somewhere along the lines it turned to shit (to be brutally honest) most of the people that go here that are serious about there schooling only go here to get there GPA up and are hell bent on leaving asap and there's a lot of people that go here really belong in prison or who are not ready for college experience. I wish there was more positives than negatives but you either have to have the means to live off this "campus" or have a deep rooted love for the school to thoroughly boost about this place the school is known to rip people off on there refund checks or stack loans all to one semester to where you own a enormous amount of out of pocket money but on the bright side this is the oldest HBCU in the south!!
