The curriculum at this school is very well put together and challenging. However, the quality of the environment that the students live in is horrendous. Roaches come from the drain of the showers, walls and birds coming from the heating vents. The quality of the windows allow for very bad drafts and are in bad condition because of poor insulations. The doors are of low quality and very penetrable. Showers remain cold for hours making it hard for students to function and go about their days. Many students email in maintenance complaints and are given poor results ending in the need to put in another request, making it a never ending cycle sometimes. Decorative lights, candles, and incense is prohibited. Making it unfair for students to express themselves in certain ways. Also, candles and incense may cause fires but we are young adults. We have the basic understanding of safety and prevention of hazardous incidents, and if they feel we don't then a mandatory seminar should be given. Incense and candles, in my opinion, allows me to meditate, make me at peace, and provides more comfortable feel being that we are all away from home. Having any of the above items results in a fine or sanction. A student put incense in a improper place within a the apartment which resulted in a fire. This caused a raise in the fine regarding fire hazards. I feel as though Everyone should not be punished just for having incense in an apartment, burning or not. If no damage is caused and no harm is down, then why must we pay $250. The fines are ridiculous for very expense and adding that with the raise in tuition makes it hard for students to manage money. Campus safety employees are rude and can be very condescending, showing no respect to us as young adults. They expect us to be attentive, yet lack to provide the same towards us as a community. For the prices asked of us to be paid to attend such a highly rated university, our money is not seen in the condition of the buildings or the advancement of the athletic department. We should be able to witness the growth of our school with the money our hard-working parents pay monthly, along with students who are putting themselves through school. In addition, the food at the school is a sub-par level. Some days the cafeteria is serving food of great quality and playful ways to help students interact with different cultures. On the other hand, most days the food has little seasoning and poor preparation of meals.
