The main problem with the Graduate School is that the staff at the Lommasson Center are less than helpful. They will say you need one thing to register, then another, then another. They may get back to you, but be prepared to wait. In the meantime, you may get registered or you may not; they don't care.

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction is equally as inept. I jettisoned from there after they lost my transcripts twice, my GRE scores once, and gave me a host of excuses why they never got back to me. One time, the secretary said my voicemail was full, which it wasn't, and I have no record of her call. My adviser's excuse was that she was at a conference with no cell phone reception (obviously an interplanetary conference on the moon). When I met with her, she said she was also in a car accident. Further, She did not know what classes I needed to take and said she'd get back to me. After our meeting, she never got back to me, nor I to her.

The University of Montana also likes to pad your requirements so that they can make more money. For example, I have a degree in English, yet I would need 73 more credit hours to teach it. Also, if your undergrad degree is from another school, expect to take extra credits.

If you can go here for free, it might be worth all the grief. Otherwise, do what I'm doing: punt on third down and long.
