I needed to inform parents and students about Iona College's very uncaring environment and what I witnessed while attending Iona.

I would go to the Academic Resource Center, located in Amend Hall, for tutoring assistance. Most times, there was no-one at the front desk to sign me in, and sometimes there was never any tutor(s) available to help me with my subject area; The Center is just so unprofessional and haphazardly run. The most uncaring thing I witnessed, on numerous occasions, was an elderly "disabled" faculty member trying to make his way up the stairs to teach his scheduled class. Iona didn't even have the decency to house this Professor in a building that had an elevator. The poor elderly man couldn't even use his walker. He had to struggle to get up the stairs, and I'm sure this is against fire and safety codes.

The President and his administrators are in their luxury suites, while this poor disabled elderly man had difficulty getting to his classroom - how wrong and uncaring Iona is. Also, notice the security guards at the side gates - they have no booths for shelter in the heat, rain, snow, ice - what a lack of compassion and caring. To me, Iona is definitely not a caring academic community. Iona's top Administrators care about their big titles and their big salaries, and just numbers, not their staff members or students welfare.

I wanted to transfer out of Iona, do to the total lack of concern and lack of motivation by administrators, but I had to stay to be close to home. The staff members, were nice, but the top administrators are removed from the students, and Iona is definitely not a warm and caring community - it's anything but, and it's definitely not run like a professional business.

I would never donate a dime of my money to Iona's campaign until I witnessed some major changes in how disabled people are treated, and until I Iona is run like a well-run corporation. I will just tear up the fund raising letters I receive. Also, I prepared myself for the world of work because I was working while attending Iona, and Iona didn't help me get my current position.

I hope Iona starts treating the disabled elderly and their hardworking security and staff members with more respect and compassion. Iona's Administrators care more about their offices being remodeled then their wonderful committed staff. Just go on-line, check how many job openings their are at Iona College. High turnover is usually a sign of a very unhappy working situation.
