Major: Nursing (This Major's Salary over time)
Rutgers University Newark is an ok school but don't underestimate the rigorous academics. Rutgers Newark has a reputation of being the "ghetto & easy" school when compared to New Brunswick but that isn't reality. I have friends at Rutgers New Brunswick who take some classes at the Newark campus and they all say that there isn't as big of a gap as many students make it out to be. You must grow up quickly to come to any college in Newark nj. You have to be street smart because crime rate and assaults against students is common here. One of my friends got stabbed by a homeless man in winter 2015 inside the Dana library on campus. Just be aware of your surroundings and be careful on, as well as off campus. Nursing program at Rutgers is a pain for transfer students to get into, even with a 3.6 GPA. Sadly they mainly accept Asians into the nursing program at both campuses (NB and Newark). Plus, they make you take 24 credits at Rutgers (credits from your previous university are not included in this 24 credit admission requirement). You can start applying to the nursing program in February but won't be notified until June 31st if you are accepted or not. Rutgers University in general goes based on their reputation but things have changed at Rutgers since your parents' generation went to Rutgers. Rutgers Newark is not really there for you. Specifically the nursing program will put every obstacle in your way if you are a transfer student. If the cost of tuition wasn't so low I wouldn't be staying at Rutgers Newark.
