I'm 26, a transfer student and a US Army veteran. UC Davis doesn't have the resources to effectively teach and assist people, like me, and in general.

Davis is awful. This "school" markets itself as a place of free thought and pretends to welcome the "open exchange of ideas." Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Students are friendly enough until you disagree with them, then they go running to the professor/TA and complain. Similarly the TA/prof would rather turf you off to whatever higher authority than settle problems themselves.

This place is open minded its close minded. Students and instructors are open to everyone until they find out you're not, then they turn against you.

The school simply does not have the resources to teach as many students as are attending. 500+ persons in both my chem 2B/C classes, and neither of the professors spoke English clearly. I had a physics class (7 series) which was intended to teach you how to learn, not actually teach students physics. Combine that with another 350+ students in class and TA's that don't speak English… good luck learning anything there.

Much of the facilities are outdated. Campus money is spent on putting things like solar panels on roofs and water free toilets in bathrooms, while neglecting things like buying chalk for chalkboards. (And we should have whiteboards by now, its 2015.)

I honestly urge you to, if you have any other option, take it instead. Davis is really that bad.

Also at time of writing this UC Davis is in the middle of a rather large controversy regarding racism. I have mixed feeling regarding this. Some of the grievances the students have listed are absolutely awful and require a response (the UC has failed to act). On the flip side of the coin, some of the things listed are, in my opinion, harmless and are being unnecessarily blown out of proportion. (Ex. Womens lacross team dressing as a Mexican gang for a party; these students are being disciplined)

PS

The city of Davis sucks too. Its a flat cowtown that hits 102 degrees by April. Cops are racist and will lie readily to detain you. Nothing to do really either, a couple of crappy bars and restaurants.
