I have few complaints about the academic program, or the professors. My main issue is with the housing department. This only applies if you are a non-traditional student living in family housing (Sunflower Court). Housing here is a joke. Facilities are poorly upkept, the buildings are old and even after a recent "renovation" woefully outdated and unsuited for living with a family. Family apartments are one of the only UIS housing offerings with no dishwasher. When you have a family and are going to school and working full time, not having a dishwasher is more than a minor inconvenience. Housing staff are rude, arrogant, abrupt and unhelpful. If I had the funds I would move but unfortunately I am stuck here. Because I chose this school for its family housing offering, I have been very disappointed by the astounding lack of quality, especially compared with the resources they put into housing for traditional/non-family student housing.
