Major: Biology (This Major's Salary over time)
I just finished my sophomore year as a chemsitry major. RIC is for the type of student that is particularly self motivated and can navigate throughout their major with little to no help from RIC itself. The advising system is dismal and discouraging at best and incorrect and misguiding at worst, so you would do best to know how to complete your major and declare your major asap, and steer clear of OASIS as much as possible. Parking is a nightmare and in the winter the sidewalks can be poorly cleared and icy to the point of being dangerous at times. Many of the buildings are old and literally falling apart. The labs are also old and cramped, and the lab gear is sometimes a little worn. Students certainly won't split the atom or discover a new quantum theory, but they will learn what they need to in the humble but reliable labs. RIC does offer some good programs, however the good programs are extremely competitive due to their small size and numerous gifted students trying to get in. As with any college or university, there are good and bad professors but for the most part the professors are kind and passionate and care about teaching and their students' success. However, there are also absolutely terrible professors as well so be sure to educate yourself on the available professors when selecting your courses and enroll as early as you possibly can. Students are mostly just trying to get their overpriced piece of paper so they can try to find a respectable job once they get older, but there are also some students that are truly motivated, intelligent individuals that care about the major they've persued and make for excellent friends and study groups.
