Hey, Im a freshman. The orientation is probably one of the worst things about niu. It is a cluster f*ck of information crammed into one day repeated over and over again and is really hard to absorb and my group and floor was probably the worst impression I could've possibly gotten of my incoming class. Otherwise people here are really warm and friendly, so its a constructive environment if you are an extrovert. If your an introvet you might find some difficulty finding your niche without feeling intimidated. The people who tend to go here are not rocket scientists but people who are really looking to have a better quality of life through education, which is admirable and people who got burned by more expensive schools who transfered here. Overall not a bad school, but depending on if you want a traditional college expirence or not it would be more cost effective to get community college credits and try applying to other schools after you get firmer footing.
